Bible Study

Today's passage gives us a moving story of how Jesus gave a new paradigm to two persons of the way to read Bible.

     N.T. Wright says:
They, like everybody else in Israel, had been reading the Bible through the wrong end of the telescope.  The had been seeing it as the long story of how God would redeem Israel from suffering, but it was instead the story of how God would redeem Israel through suffering...
For that we need to learn how to read the scriptures; and for that we need, as our teacher, the risen Lord himself.  This passage forms one of the most powerful encouragements to pray for his presence, and sense of guidance, whenever we study the Bible, individually, in pairs or in larger groups.  We need to be prepared for him to rebuke our foolish and faithless readings, and to listen for his fresh interpretation.  Only with him at our side will our hearts burn within us (verse 32), and lead us to the point where we see him face to face.

So, do you think you have the presence of Jesus when you read the Bible? Do you know that you need to invite Him to be with you every time you read the Bible so that you are not only studying the holy scripture but being with Jesus.

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: We need Jesus' presence when we read the Bible.

Jesus came up to two of his disciples and they could not recognize Him. How can that be? Yesterday when I was driving, suddenly Ignatius said, "Wow, I've been in this car for three years and I never know there is a piece of extra sun- block which can pull on the side of the two sun-block besides the back mirror."

Three years, no one knows, not me, Michelle, Ignatius or Athanasius! Lots of time we are really blind and not able to see lots of things. I can't remember when did I know I need Jesus to be with me when I read the Bible. What I know is the big difference. Only the presence of Jesus can open our eyes to many things we cannot be able to see. Just like when I was writing the Devotion on Fire 2 blog two days ago. Jesus opened my eyes suddenly to see the three words "in the highest" and that changed what I thought to the meaning of "Glory to God"! Please click this link to see how Jesus opened my eyes yesterday:

Yes, you need Jesus' presence when you read the Bible.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able and willing to invite you to be with us to open our eyes to your Holy Word when we read the Bible. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
