Bible Study

John is trying to tell us how we can live out a new lifestyle and not in our previous lifestyle of regular sinning.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
John knows, of course, that Christians do still sin from time to time; there is a remedy for that (see 2.1).  What he is talking about here is the whole habit of life, 'going on sinning', sinning as the regular mode in which we live…
God, as John says in verses 1 and 2, has made us his children in a whole new way, and being fathered by God means that our new selves, our new real selves, cannot and will not sin habitually, as our way of life.
And the greatest sin, it seems, is the failure to love.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.151-152.

So, what kind of lifestyle are you having now? Are you unable to love, committing the greatest sin?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: How is your new lifestyle?

The message I got from Jesus today is a spiritual check-up time. The question is that whether we are still living in a regular sinning lifestyle. Or, are we being changed by Jesus so that we are living in a lifestyle of Christlikeness.

How to know the difference? John says it is love. Because the greatest sin is unable to love. The greatest commandment is that we can love God and His people. Are you able to love?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for your love to die on the cross for us. Lead us to follow your example that we can also love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
