Bible Study

After Judah tells us that Jesus guards us in order that we can be able to guard the faith, he talks about why we need to stress about the importance of guarding the faith in today's passage. It's all about rebellion! Rebellion of those people he mentions in the Old Testament stories, rebellion of the angels and rebellion of human beings in all ages including our age.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Rebellion, in fact, is near the heart of the problem.  The teachers are overthrowing or ignoring the proper structures of authority, and the result is moral chaos and pollution, signalled by a further bewildering list of metaphors: waterless clouds, fruitless trees, splashing waves, wandering stars…The teachers appear to offer a way of life which is exciting, different and liberating; but the only thing they achieve is shame, darkness and chaos
The Lord is coming with his holy ones.  Judgment is on the way, not least for the ungodly, but the teachers in question simply grumble, complain, and go off on yet another round of pleasure-seeking, supporting their behaviour with arrogance and greed…The reality of false teaching, especially the rejection of authority, the denial of the uniqueness of Jesus, and the encouragement of sexual immorality, is with us today every bit as much as it was in the first century. We take a deep sign for sorrow, and pray that Jesus the Messiah will indeed keep us safe.  Part of the answer to that prayer will be that we have been alerted to the problem, so when it appears again, as it surely will, we will be able to recognize it for what it is.

Do you know the similar things are happening now? How do you respond to Judah's message today?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Recognize who are the false teachers?

The message I got from Jesus today is a warning to all of us. There are so many false teachers around. Some are leading Christians away from the faith, some are simply just leading people to grumble, complain and reject authority, some are deceiving people into sexual immorality.

But, they are all wise and cunning false teachers. They support their superb teaching with their pride, arrogance and greed, tearing off relationships, dividing churches and destroying souls.

Are you able to recognize them? What can you do as disciples of Christ to stop them?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see those things you want us to see so that we can recognize those false teachers. Help us to guard the faith that those people you put into our trust will not turn astray and follow those false teachers and their false teaching.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
