Bible Study

John begins his letter to the seven churches as well as to all churches telling them what he has seen from his experience to see Jesus face to face.

Today's passage serves as the introduction to his whole letter focus everything in Jesus. Telling people who Jesus is and warning people that Jesus is coming back soon.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Far away the most important: everything that is to come flows from the central figure, Jesus himself, and ultimately from God the father, 'He Who Is and Who Was and Who Is To Come' (verses 4,8).  Even in this short opening John manages to unveil a good deal of what he believes about God and Jesus, and about the divine plan.  God is the Almighty, the beginning and the end
And Jesus is the one who, through his death and resurrection, has accomplished God's purpose.  His love for his people, his liberation of them by his self-sacrifice, his purpose for them - all these are stated here briefly in verse 6.  And, not least, Jesus is the one who will soon return to complete the task, to set up his rule on earth as in heaven.

N.T. Wright. Revelation for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.5.

Do you know that Jesus is coming back anytime? Or, are you so lazy thinking that for the past two thousand years he has not come back yet, you do not need to be ready for his coming back?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Be ready! Jesus is coming back!

What I got from Jesus today is an interesting question. What would be the difference if you truly believe that Jesus will come back soon? How do you answer this question?

It's like you are going to sell your house and you need to be ready for buyers to come to see you house anytime. You have to throw all unnecessary things away, you have to make your house clean and tidy and be ready any time, right?

Jesus is giving me this picture today hoping you can get the message:
I am coming back soon, are you ready?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to take your warning seriously that you are coming back any time. Lead us to be ready each day to welcome your coming back. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
