Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

     For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light do we see light.
                                                         Psalm 36:9

Confession and repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word

When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.                  Exodus 32:1-6

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
While Moses was having an intimate time with God up in the mountain listening to what God commanded, Aaron and other Israelites were having a rebellious act and a crazy party. How could that happen?

Jesus gives me a hint today of what really happened on that day. And the hint is just one question:

Who do you think Aaron was listening to?

Nowadays there are so many churches, Christian organizations, seminaries and Christians using marketing strategy to do their "business". We have to know the need of the market and the need of the people. All kinds of marketing research is for the professionals to be able to tailor-made a marketing plan to do successful business.

Well, Aaron might be the first marketing professional to listen to the need of the people and provide a plan he thought could solve the problem. What is the problem? The problem is that those people could see God's servant Moses before and now they could not see! They lost their leader and at the same time they lost God!

Can Aaron replace Moses to lead them? Yes, he can. But he has to listen to God first, get God's strategy, show it to the people and then Aaron can lead. Just like what Joshua did 40 years later.

But, we can't find any place here in the Bible to show Aaron listened to God!

    Who are you listening to?
If your leader is a "Moses", you should be able to tell from his/her track record and whether their is much fruit in his/her ministries.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able and be willing to listen to you. Open our eyes to see the leader we are following is Moses or Aaron. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1.  Who are you listening to really? How often do you pray and ask God to give you His plan and be willing to follow His plan?

2.  Is your leader a "Moses" or "Aaron"? How can you know that?
