Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!”
                             Psalm 50:1

Confession and repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Leviticus 1:1-17)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus 1&version=ESV

The Lord called Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock.
“If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before theLord.
                                              Leviticus 1: 1-3

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Although Leviticus is a separate book from Exodus, it is somewhat like the second part of Exodus, like Acts is the second part of Luke in the New Testament.

The last part of Exodus describes how the Sanctuary was built. Leviticus is the instructions mainly to the priests, the members of the clan of Levi on how to offer sacrifices there.

One of the most important and inspiring learning in this book is that it opens with the command of giving and how to give to God, and that is our offerings to God. Why God not talk about other things first but to talk about how the Israelites should give to God?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The Old Testament assumes that feelings, words, and music are important, but they are not enough.  In human relationships, if I had told my wife I loved her but never gave her a birthday gift, she would have a basis for wondering how real my love was

You do have to remember that only a good example of a particular offering will do as a sacrifice. If you are offering an animal, a male will do, even though males are less valuable to you than females, but it needs to be one that is whole.  A deformed animal would suggest you're trying to look impressive(you're giving an animal, not just some grain), but you're doing it on the cheap.  Further, the wholeness of an offering corresponds to the wholeness of God, of the sanctuary, and of creation.

John Goldingay. Exodus and Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.130.

Do you agree with Professor John Goldingay that your gifts to God is perhaps the best indicator of how real you love God?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me love you with my heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Please open my eyes to see your good gifts, and open my heart and hands to offer you my gifts.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. God has everything, why do you think God wants you to offer a good amount of your money to Him?

2.  Do you agree with Professor John Goldingay that your gifts to God is perhaps the best indicator of how real you love God? Why?

3.  What does giving an animal without defect means to you? What kind of challenges have you received today from God Himself?
