Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      Blessed are you, O Lord;
            teach me your statutes!
         With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
                       Psalm 119:12-13

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Judges 2:1-5)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judges 2&version=ESV

Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. And they called the name of that place Bochim. And they sacrificed there to the Lord.
                      Judges 2:1-5

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
An angel came to tell the Israelites of their sin that they did not listen to God but to follow the gods of the Canaanites. It is because they did not kick out those evil people from the Promised Land God had given to them.

After they heard the angel's message of judgement they wept loudly and they offered sacrifices to the Lord. Was it too late to repent? What happen after that? Is God going to forgive them and save them? What is the significance of their weeping aloud and their offering sacrifices?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The Old Testament often refers to Canaanite deities as Baals, but Baal is an ordinary word for Lord or Master, so I refer to them as the Masters. Judges also mentions the Ashtoreths; there are various ways of spelling that word, and this may be an insulting Israelite way of spelling it, because it combines the consonants of the name, in the form that the Canaanites and other Middle Eastern people would use with the vowels of a Hebrew word for "shame." May be that's a coincidence, but the effect is that even naming this deity suggests it is something shameful.

John Goldingay. Joshua, Judges and Ruth for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.93.

The message I received from Jesus yesterday is to relate the kicking out of those evil people to the Israelites equal to our kicking out of our bad habits, those habits unacceptable by God.

What we can see in today's passage is the consequence if we can't kick out our bad habits. And, the consequence is that Jesus cannot be our Lord and Master. Those bad habits would be our Lord and Masters leading us to a life that our real Masters is this world and the devil. We will be slaves under those Masters and their boss who is Satan himself.

You really need to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you if you have any bad habits that you need to kick out daily. This is not a one time deal, this is a life-long spiritual journey whether you can walk with Jesus each day or to walk with those evil Masters each day.

If you are really on route with Jesus each day, then you will automatically make more and more offerings because you have no Master mastering you but just Jesus. Your offerings is a sign and test of whether Jesus is your only Lord and Master!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to kick out those bad habits unacceptable to you so that we won't fall into the traps and snares of the devil. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Are you able to know those bad habits unacceptable by God? How are you going to kick them out of your life?

2. Have you experienced the freedom after you kicked out any kind of bad habit before? How did you feel at that time? How do you feel now?

3. How is you offerings lately? What is the relationship between your offerings and your worshiping God as you Master but not money as your Master?
