Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      Forever, O Lord, your word
is firmly fixed in the heavens.
         Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
you have established the earth, and it stands fast.
                       Psalm 119:89-90

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Judges 2:6-15)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judges 2&version=ESV

When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the Lord had done for Israel. And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110 years. And they buried him within the boundaries of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. 10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.
11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.12 And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger. 13 They abandoned the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. 14 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. 15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress.
                      Judges 2:6-15

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
The Israelites experienced the miraculous power of God and the great leadership of Moses and Joshua. But, how could they keep on forgetting God's grace and mercy? The consequence of forgetting God's grace and mercy is suffering and destruction, but they keep on forgetting and to worship other gods! How can that be? Let's read the second time what Professor John Goldingay wrote that we read just two days ago to know what keeps on happening to mankind.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Judges portrays the period it covers as a series of stories of apostasy, divine chastisement, divine mercy, and restoration. With variations, the sequence keeps repeating itself…People do what is bad; God therefore makes bad things happen to them.

John Goldingay. Joshua, Judges and Ruth for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.94.

Why we keep on forgetting God's grace and mercy? Well, it has been for the past thousands of years! The question is not why, but how can we not keep on forgetting God's grace and mercy?

     Do you know how?

We'll talk about that tomorrow. We'll see how God acted to pull them back to His grace and mercy. We'll talk about how we can stop this kind of cycle of rebellious tomorrow.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us not to forget your grace and mercy. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you admit that you are one of those people always forget God's grace and mercy?

2. Do you know how not to forget God's grace and mercy?

3. What have you got from Jesus today?
