Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
             nor the moon by night.
                       Psalm 121:5-6

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Judges 4:17-24)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judges 4&version=ESV

21 But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand. Then she went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died. 22 And behold, as Barak was pursuing Sisera, Jael went out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking.” So he went in to her tent, and there lay Sisera dead, with the tent peg in his temple.
23 So on that day God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the people of Israel.24 And the hand of the people of Israel pressed harder and harder against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
                      Judges 4:21-24

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Yesterday we read about how Deborah became top leader as a judge leading the Israelites. Today we read a story of another woman who saved the Israelites from oppression and suffering. Jael, seems an ordinary woman but became a mighty warrior doing mighty deed for God.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Jael was also a tough woman, a little in the mode of Ehud. Her husband, too, is missing from the story, and that fact perhaps contributes to the death of Sisera. He had reason to think he would be safe in Heber's encampment because there was an alliance between Heber and Sisera's boss, but Heber and Jael were related to Moses. In the absence of Heber, Jael does not feel bound to give priority to politics over family, and she knows how to use her femininity on Sisera. She welcomes the exhausted warrior into her tent, feeds him, lulls him to sleep, then hammers a tent peg through his skull. The result is that the glory for Israel's victory goes to a woman.

We do not have a problem nowadays that women can be top leaders in a nation or in a company. But, in that time it was a man's world. How God allows Deborah and Jael to become important leaders give us a message that we should not look down upon anybody, thinking that they cannot not do the job for God. Instead, we need to have a close relationship with God so that we can be able to discern God's will to accept those whom God choose to do God's work. We need to accept God's chosen leaders!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to accept your chosen leaders and to follow their lead. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you have anyone in your mind that you think he or she is not a chosen leader of God? How do you know? Is that your pride or your stubbornness?

2. How can you be more willing to follow God's chosen leaders to do God's mighty work?

3. What have you got from Jesus today?
