When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people. Genesis 49: 33
What I got from Jesus today is: A true finishing well!
If you have followed this blog and podcast from Genesis 25 to this chapter you know that Jacob is the person who should have the least chance to finish well. Why? Because of his selfishness, his wanting to grasp everything to himself just like the meaning of his name "he grasps the heel", the way he cheated his brother Esau and his father-in-law, the sad happening of how his ten sons sold their own brother Joseph, the pain and suffering of his losing Joseph.That's why Jacob replied to Pharaoh, "My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers."
But, because of his personal relationship with God was reconnected he was in God's full blessing again. And God gave him a most honored and beautiful finishing well with all his sons surrounded and his completion of appropriate prophetic blessing to each one of his sons.
Again, he lived out what Psalm 128: 1 says:
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be with you daily that we can finish well someday. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
