Bible Study

Today's passage gives us a good picture of how Paul received a tailor-made message to say to the Athenians.

Bishop N.T. Wright's says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright):
It's a highly skilled performance, giving a vivid example of what Paul meant when he said, writing later to Corinth, that it was his aim to 'take every thought captive to obey the Messiah' (2 Corinthians 10:5).

N.T. Wright. Acts for Everyone, Part 2. Louisville,KY:Westminster John Knox Press, 2008, p.86.

How can you learn from Paul's experience in this passage to receive a tailor-made message from the Lord to various people so that they can be able to  understand what you are saying?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: How do you receive what God wants you to say?

I am going to preach in our English service tomorrow. It is a totally different way and experience to preach in our English service and Chinese service. Ignatius told me last time when I preached, "Dad, use their language and culture if you want them to understanding what you are talking about." Yes, actually lots of time people do not understand what we are talking about.

So, how do you receive what God wants you to say?

How did Paul receive what God wanted him to say?
1. The Holy Spirit led him to focus on an altar with the inscription "To an unknown god."

2.  From that inspiration Paul got the tailor-made message

3.  God used his academic background to relate everything together in a philosophical way.

What have you got up to this point? It's purely relational. Our intimate personal relationship with Jesus is the key. The Holy Spirit is going to lead us to experience that three points so that people will know what we are talking about.

Do you know what I am talking about?

Dear Holy Spirit,
Lead us in your own way that we can be able to receive your tailor-made message to take every thought captive to obey Jesus as the Savior and Lord of life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
