Bible Study

This passage shows the first time Paul stayed in a city for a long time. This is actually almost the end of his second missionary journey. All the other time he stayed quite briefly because most of the time he was being thrown out of those cities. So, why he stayed for 1 1/2 year, so long?

Bishop N.T. Wright's says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright):
Maybe the city was sufficiently large and cosmopolitan to cope more easily than some other places with the going and froing between paul and the synagogue community; and maybe, as we shall see, a larger number of the leading Jews in Corinth believed the gospel than had been the case elsewhere.  The second main reason is the remarkable vision he had one night (verses 9-10).  Whereas the last vision he had had was of someone telling him to go somewhere he hadn't elected (16:9), this one was telling him to stay put.  and the Lord, speaking to him personally and not through an angel or a figure like a 'man from Macedon', gave him an interesting reason: There are many of my people in this city.  In other words, evangelism is only just beginning here.  Settle down and get on with it.  I am at work here, and you must trust me and stick it out.

Have you been settled down in your home church and not shopping for various churches? If you have found your home church, how are you going to settle down and to prepare yourself to be a better disciples of Jesus, a better leader leading those who Jesus prepare for you to lead?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Settle down and get on with it!

What I received from Jesus today is to remind us that there are lots of people shopping around for churches. At the end of Paul's second missionary journey he found out his new strategy that he needed to settled down to prepare leaders in a deeper way.

We can see from Acts 11:26 that Barnabas prepared Paul to be a better leader already used this strategy. Seems that Paul got it a little bit late right?

There are too many people thinking that big and macro is the key to do business and to do church. It was not too late for Paul to find out that small and micro is beautiful.

How about you? Have you settled down and get on with it already?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to settle down and get on with it. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
