From what you read in this passage, was Felix a good guy or a bad guy? Well, it seems that he calmed everything down and he liked to listen to Paul. And, we can see in verse 22 that he had a rather accurate knowledge of the Way, which was the first name people gave to Christianity. So, a good guy?

Bishop N.T. Wright's says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright):

If what Paul was saying was true, Felix's own life was a tangled mess indeed.  Faith in the Messiah, Jesus, would mean coming to terms with Justice, self-control, and the coming judgment, and on each of those scores Felix must have realized that he was, to say the least, doing rather badly.  So he plays a kind of cat-and-mouse game with Paul, in which, though he may have thought to begin with he was the cat, he ends up being the frightened mouse.  Go away for now, he says; oh, come back again and talk some more; go away again; come back; and so on.

N.T. Wright. Acts for Everyone, Part 2. Louisville,KY:Westminster John Knox Press, 2008, p.193.

Do you think you are playing a cat-and-mouse game with Jesus? Any of your friends are playing a cat-and-mouse game with Jesus? What can you do to stop playing this game and help other people to stop playing this game?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Stop playing the cat-and-mouse game with Jesus!

What I received from Jesus is a warning to all of us, especially those who have been playing a cat-and-mouse game with Jesus.

Recently I had a two hours chatting and sharing with a member of our church encouraging him to get connected again with church life. What he told me is exactly what Jesus reminds us today in this passage. He said, "Don't chase me, the more you chase me, the farther I will be running away." He is playing a cat-and-couse game with Jesus!

Sometimes I am quite tired of chasing all those people who are so proud of their guts and wisdom to play this cat-and-mouse game with Jesus. It seems that they are saying to Jesus, "Well, I know what you want me to do, but I don't want to do your things, let's see if you can chase me. Let's see who can run faster." Felix got his chance to receive Jesus but he made a big mess! There are so many Christians and non-Christians who think they can play a cat-and-mouse game with Jesus made a big mess!

Jesus should be our Lord and King and He surely is our Lord and King. Playing the cat-and-mouse game with Jesus means that He is not your Lord and King.  Stop playing the cat-and-mouse game with Jesus please!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to help more people to stop playing the cat-and-mouse game with you. And, if we are playing that game with you, reveal to us so that we can repent and follow you as our Lord and King.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
