Bible Study

      This is the most passionate and moving sermon Paul ever preached. Every time I read his sermon in this chapter together with what happened of the tears, prayers and kissing after the sermon, I am in tears.

     Why is that so moving? It's love, a deep love that a servant of God can give to God's people. A love without reservation. Bishop N.T. Wright thinks of his teacher, mentor and friend Dr. George Caird. Bishop Wright says Paul's sermon reminds him of Dr. Caird's sermon "a debt of love, which only love can repay" on Galatians 2:20. (N.T. Wright. Acts for Everyone, Part 2. Louisville, KY: Westminster, John Knox Press, 2008, p.130). I was shock and moved when I read that title and used it as today's title.

    How could those leaders repay Paul's love? It's only their love to God and His people could they repay that love.

    Can you close your eyes now and ask Jesus to review all those servants of God who helped you to understand God's love so that you can live it out? I did that an hour ago and the past hour was full of thanksgiving. You can't pay what they gave you, it's only love can repay for that debt!

                                     

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    What I heard from Jesus today is: A debt of love, only love can repay

 Today's devotion is a very emotional one because Jesus reminds me of how blessed I am to have so many servants of God being with me, teaching me and loving me for the past many years. Yes, that is really a debt we can never repay but only love can repay.

    Today especially I think of one of my spiritual father John Stott. Without his word of wisdom to help me encounter a paradigm shift on a "Subject Shifting" journey, I don't know what kind of leader I would become. I started to write my first post of my first blog in July 2009 to describe that journey with Uncle John (Please click the link above). I was so sad that Uncle John could not have a time to be with Ignatius(my son) and me again on June 10, 2011 in his London home. The appointment was cancelled because he was very weak and dying. He passed away on July 27,2011. Today when I read how Paul missed his disciples and how his disciples missed him, I miss Uncle John so much! And I give thanks to the Lord for He blesses me with so many anointed and humble leaders who raise me up as how Paul raised his disciples up. Nothing can repay that love!

Yes, a debt of love, only love can repay!

   

Dear Lord Jesus,

Lead us to follow Paul's example to love and raise up leaders for your Kingdom ministry. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
