Bible Study

Paul describes a deadly situation he experienced in this passage. The sufferings Paul experienced was close to a nervous breakdown and he lost all hope. Have you been there? That's how God allowed that to happen to Paul so that he can help us to get through our darkest time.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
We have learned a lot about suffering, especially mental suffering, in the last century or so.  Psychologists and psychiatrists, though sometimes producing some peculiar theories, have given us real insight and brought much help and understanding to people in need.  But this passage, though brief, goes as deep in its description of the problem and its solution as any modern theory.  At the centre of everything are the issues of life and death.  To face death, a sentence of death coming from one's own being, is as low as one can get.  To trust in the God who raises the dead, with that faith anchored in the resurrection of Jesus himself, is the best therapy anyone could discover, in the first century or the twenty-first.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:2 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.9-10.

What have you learned from this passage to get through deep suffering when it comes to you? What have you learned from this passage so that you are able to help those in sufferings?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Don't quit! Jesus is your only hope!

What I got from Jesus today is the only way to get through deep sufferings, even death. You can have all kinds of methods, medicine, pills, specialists and more. May be those things and professionals can help you. But, most of the time, people still being trapped in darkness and rely on lots of medication.

The only way to get through our sufferings or even death is Jesus. The only way to help someone to get through their sufferings or even death is to help them to be as close as they can with Jesus and our prayers.

Jesus and prayers is the only way to win over the death sentence inside someone. Don't quit! Never quit! Jesus is your only hope!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be as close as we can to you so that we can get through any kind of sufferings, even death.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
