Bible Study

Paul was being accused of changing his plan easily. He wanted the Corinthians to know that he is not like that kind of leader they thought he was of inconsistency, but very consistent.  How did he make his argument?

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
But, though he has good reasons for his change of plan, the Corinthians have got the impression that he is vacillating, unable to make his mind up, perhaps deliberately sending mixed signals about his intentions.  He's like a person who says 'Yes, yes', out of one side of the mouth and 'No, no', out of the other.  Not so, Paul declares: I have always had Yes as my answer to you.  It may come out in different ways, but I have been completely consistent.  He has lived, prayed, and planned on the basis of the gospel itself; and the gospel is all about God saying Yes to people through the gospel of his son, the Messiah.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:2 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.9-10.

Do you have similar problem against your leaders concerning with inconsistency? Do you think they have similar reasons as Paul?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Anointed, sealed and gifted

What I got from Jesus today is a new way to support our leaders. Actually Paul was not trying to make a defence so that those Corinthians accepted his explanation. Paul uses verse 21 to 22 to remind them if they were being anointed by God, having the seal of God on them that they belonged to God and had the Holy Spirit filling them, they won't have a problem.

Wow! That's the way to deal with division and arguments in a church. If those Christians are being anointed, sealed and gifted, they won't accuse their leaders like how the Corinthians accused Paul. If those people make accusation against their leaders leading their church having division and arguments, they might not been anointed, sealed and gifted.

So, our main job to build our church is to help more people to be anointed, sealed and gifted. Right?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to help more people to be anointed, sealed and gifted so that we can build up your body, the church.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
