Bible Study

Paul tries to explain to the Corinthians that the 'new covenant" God made in Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit is much more glorious than the 'old covenant' God made through Moses.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Paul's face does not literally shine as he speaks…but Paul wants them to realize that when God is at work in them by his spirit there is a glory at work that puts even Moses in the shade…
Paul has here focused them sharply on the contrast between the admittedly glorious work of Moses and the apparently un-glorious work he had to do as an apostle.  He is challenging them to look for the real glory even though at the moment they can't see it.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:2 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.33-34.

So, can you see the glorious work the Holy Spirit is doing in your own church, or you stick with what the lifeless human driven work without the glory of the Holy Spirit?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Can you see the glorious work the Holy Spirit is doing?

What I got from Jesus today is a question of discernment whether we can see the glorious work of the Holy Spirit in your own church. The word "glory" and "glorious" appears ten times in five verses. Wow! That's a lot!

Yes, that's how Paul wants to use this word to stir up the fire within you so that you are able to see the glory the Holy Spirit pouring down to your church if your people are prepared and willing to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit.

I have seen more and more glory in our Sunday worship. I have seen much glory in lots of people's face. I can smell the aroma of Christ from quite a number of people in my church, more and more. How about you?

Can people smell that aroma of Christ within you? Can people see the shinning and glory of God in you?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to shine for you and have the aroma of you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
