Bible Study

We have been talking about giving for the past five days, feel boring? Well, that's how Paul wants to teach the Corinthians in details of how they should handle Christian giving. Why? Because it is very important!

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( ) :
What we have in this passage is the sign that Paul cared deeply about every stage of his own planning, and thought hard about all the people involved and how they would be affected.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:2 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.97.
To teach Christians to give is perhaps one of the most difficult task for pastors and leaders? What have you learned from Paul's teaching about giving? What have you been changed after being taught the past four days?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":

What I heard from Jesus today is: More about giving? Why?

What I got from Jesus today is a question you might have after reading and listening to my blogs/podcasts the past four days. Everyday is talking about giving, giving and giving. Enough! I know what to do! Is that your voice deep down your heart?

It might be a coincidence for those who are in Richmond Emmanuel Church or those who care about Richmond Emmanuel Church that the past four days is one of many confirmation that we need to do what Haggai says:

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways.  Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the Lord."                     Haggai 1: 7-8

Since we received a call to launch our "10,000 Reasons 123 Campaign" on December 1, 2013, (Please click this link to know that a miracle is happening to us: ) in three weeks time we have received a donation of around 1.3 millions dollars to support our church building project.

I do think that the past four days is not a coincidence but a call from our Lord Jesus Christ for those who love and care about the future of Richmond Emmanuel Church to "go up to the hills and bring wood and build God's house". Last Sunday a sister came up to me after service and said, "Silas, I am going to join 10,000 Reasons 123. I am going to give an offering of $10,000." Four days ago I had a brother called me and said, "Silas, I went up to the hills and brought wood. I donated $10,000 already, do you know that?" There were lots of similar saying and calls I received the past three weeks that more and more brothers and sisters received confirmation from our Lord and joined in our 10,000 Reasons 123 Campaign.

Please pray for us daily that the past three weeks is just a start of a WAVE of offerings from our Lord Jesus Christ so that we can experience REC theme of 2014 "Journeying to The Promised Land". May we feel the pleasure of our Lord Jesus Christ when more and more people join in our 10,000 Reasons 123 and His Mighty Name be glorified!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to offer what we are being called so that your Name will be glorified.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
