Bible Study

This is a passage full of visual effect. In the midst of all kinds of unknown and troubles, Paul give the Corinthians and us a wonderful scene. The scene of a triumphal processions of a king or a general. The practice of the burning of the incense brings a special aroma to the people welcoming the king or the general.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Paul's point is that, as God's triumphal procession makes its way through the world following the victory of Jesus the Messiah over death and sin, people like himself, who are in the procession, are wafting the smell of victory, the smell of triumph, to people all round.  To those who are bing grasped by the love and power of the gospel and who are responding to it, the smell is sweet: it means victory, joy, hope and peace even in the middle of present troubles.  To those who are setting their faces against the gospel and all that it means, the same smell reminds them that the victory God won in the Messiah means victory over all the forces that oppose his healing rule of justice and peace; in other word, that those who oppose are signing their own death warrant.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:2 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.24-25.

Are you in the midst of unknown and troubles just like Paul? How can you use today's message to have a paradigm shift to enjoy your triumphal procession with Jesus Christ as the King? How can you spread the aroma of Jesus Christ tomorrow and from then on?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: You are the aroma of Jesus Christ

What I got from Jesus today is a wonderful reminder that even we are in deep distress as Paul was, we can enjoy the ride with Jesus in the triumphal procession and at the same time spreading the aroma of Christ.

There are times when we are joyful and successful we may be able to let the others to smell the aroma of Christ in us. But, when we are down and trouble, people may be able to smell a different kind of "smell", bad smell but not aroma!

So, do you think you can have that kind of aroma of Christ tomorrow and then on? Can people see the light of Christ in you and can smell the aroma of Christ from you?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to spread the aroma of you even when we are down and trouble.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
