Yesterday we had the most joyful and powerful thanksgiving of the Israelites through a song. More than two millions Israelites sang that song giving thanks to God for what he had done.

Then in three days time, they grumbled!

Just three days the Israelites could forget what God had accomplished in perhaps the greatest miracle of mankind. How can they do that?

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The Israelites don't complain against God but against Moses and Aaron; it requires less courage to criticize your human leaders than to criticize God…
Exodus adds that the story establishes a principle of God's dealings with the people.  An experience like the one they have just gone through is a kind of testing.  Their failure doesn't actually matter.  They need to learn from what happened.  The rule is, live your life in accordance with God's bidding, and God will make things work out.  They then come to a place with abundant water, which encourages their faith.

John Goldingay. Exodus & Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.69, 70.

Do you think you would do the same thing to God and His servants? Are you sure you won't complain to God's servants when something goes not your own way?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Dump God in just three days

What I receive from Jesus today is a sad reality. We don't have the honour as those two million Israelites to witness the greatest miracle in the history of mankind, the crossing of the Red Sea. Even so, they could dump God in just three days back to their default mode of grumbling and grumbling.

From the greatest and most wonderful thanksgiving as in the song of Moses and Miriam to the grumbling today, what a huge difference.  Not a long time, but just three days!

So, if they could do that, we can not escape this kind of human weakness and sin!

Yes, you may think that they did not dump God but just complaining. But, that's what I receive from Jesus today. This kind of complaining is not only complaining to God's servants but is the same as to dump God. That's what I hear from Jesus today.

Why not learn from Moses to cry out to God and not complain to God's servants trying to get God to act again? Yes, God acted because God's servant, just one servant chose not to complain and not being hurt by those "bullying arrows" shooting to him. He cried out to God and God acted.

After all, it is just a test! Do you think you can pass the next test God prepared for you? Not complain, reject but to cry out to God, give thanks and wait.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to understand that it is human weaknesses that we like to complain, especially to God's servants. Lead us to be able to think positive, always give thanks, accepting each others and to encourage your servants to wait for you to act mightily. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
