      If your father-in-law or any of your family members are not Christians, today's passage is a good way to help you to lead them to Jesus.  

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

    

       Moses has the chance to tell his father-in-law what God had done for Israel in rescuing them from Pharaoh and then from the troubles they have had on their journey through Sinai(like the problems about food and water and the attack of Amalek).  Jethro bursts out in praise and brings his offerings to show he means it.  It is quite a reaction from a Midianite priest. One should perhaps not call him the first convert; maybe that was Hagar in Genesis, and then there are all those other people who accompanied the Israelites when they left Egypt.  But he is the first person whose detailed conversion story we are told.

      How often do you tell your non-believing family members how you experience God's great power?

     The title I heard from Jesus today is: How to lead your family members to receive Jesus

    What I receive from Jesus today is a call to learn from Moses' experience to lead your family members to Jesus. Actually to help your family members to receive Jesus is very difficult. Because they know who you are and your history. It would be difficult for them to see Jesus has changed you unless that is a big, big change.

     Now, what Moses experienced is a big, big change. And, Moses is willing to tell his father-in-law what God has done to them. The act of Jethro to make an offering is somewhat equal to reciting the sinner's prayer or even baptism and then having communion.

     You just need to tell God's story and God will take care of other things. Are you willing to tell? When are you going to tell? 
    

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to have the faith and courage to tell our story of experiencing God so that some of our family members would have a chance to receive Jesus.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
