Let us praise the Lord:

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

                                             Psalm 62:5-6
Today's Reading: Exodus 18:13-27

Bible Study

After all those powerful and miraculous acts of God, Moses got the total trust of the Israelites with supreme authority. He got the power to decide everything. Is that good?

The wisdom of Jethro, his father-in-law, helped Moses to escape the deadly consequence of being a one-man-band leader. If Moses did not listen and insisted to do everything himself, he would burn out soon and everything would collapse.

What have you got from today's message. Are you a one-man-band leader? Are you on the edge of burning out? What is your way out?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Why leaders burnout?

What I receive from Jesus today is a warning to those leaders who like to do things in a one-man-band way like how Moses did things in today's passage. You can't do that!

Many years ago, I was like that and I burnt out many times! Nearly to the edge of quitting! Then Jesus used this passage to change my way of doing things. I start to tell our people, "Please help me to do those things you can do  so that I can do those things you can't do." More and more leaders understand this is the way it should go and I escape the deadly consequence of a one-man-band leader - burning out.

On the other hand, please help your leader to do the things you can take from his/her shoulders so that he/she can be more effective to raise up more leaders to extend God's mighty Kingdom.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see our weaknesses. Help us to allow you to release our burdens through those helpers you prepare for us so that your Kingdom ministry may be extended. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
