Bible Study

Today's passage not only talks about an individual person who greeds for more but speaks to the whole nation of Israel and to all of us.

N.T. Wright says:
Israel was in danger of becoming like the man in the story who wanted the security of enough possessions to last him a long time.  Societies and individuals alike can think themselves into this false position, to which the short answer is God's: 'You fool!' Life isn't like that.  The kingdom of God isn't like that.
The kingdom of God is, at its heart, about God's sovereignty sweeping the world with love and power, so that human beings, each made in God's image and each one loved dearly, may relax in the knowledge that God is in control.

Actually, the key word in this passage is in one of Jesus' most important sayings:
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.  Sell your possessions and give to the poor.  Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.       Luke 12: 32-34

What are you afraid of? What is controlling you? Is that money, yourself or Jesus? Do you want more in order to be more secure? How can you give more in order to taste the sweetness and security of His mighty Kingdom? What are your preparing for yourself?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: You fool! Preparing what?!

What I received from Jesus today is a heart to heart question. We work hard and to prepare for so many things. We are not satisfied because lots of the things we want we cannot get and we work hard to get more. Does Jesus wants you to have those things more or just you?

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.             John 10:10

Satan comes in to deceive us to take all things away from us that we think we have to have more in order to be satisfied, secure and experience a full life. But Jesus comes to give his life to us and lead us from getting more to giving more in order that he can work through us to bless more people to be in his love, joy and peace and that we do not need to have more. Our hearts is in Jesus and in his Kingdom but not on money and the world kingdom.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us not to be a fool drowning ourselves in the sea of greed but to use our time, our lives and our everything to prepare for your Kingdom.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
