N.T. Wright gives us a good story of how he had a confirmed ticket to the flight to Washington but was refused to board because of some weird regulation. He was very angry and wrote angry letter to the airline and was eventually rewarded with US$100 free travel vouchers to use in the next couple of months which was no good to him living in England. He then challenged us with this passage saying that even we have a confirmed ticket but it doesn't mean that we can get on board a plane.
He says:
As Jesus goes about his mission, he is holding open the gate of the kingdom and urging people to enter it. The door isn't very wide, and it will take energy and commitment to get in...One day, and not very long from now, the door will be shut, and it will be too late. God is giving Israel this last chance, through the work of Jesus, but he is the final messenger. If he is refused, there will be no further opportunity.
So, do you think you have a confirmed ticket to heaven? Are you sure? Why?
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Do you have a confirmed ticket to heaven?
What I received from Jesus today is another reality check of whether we have received Jesus as our Lord and are willing to follow Him as our Lord. To follow Him needs energy and commitment! Are you willing to take that energy and commitment to follow Jesus to enter that narrow door to heaven?
Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to take energy and commitment to follow you to enter that narrow door to heaven. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
