Today's passage serves the final answer to yesterday's message of what we are preparing. Are you a fool or Jesus' disciple? And, if we are Jesus' disciple how do you prepare yourself?
N. T. Wright says:
Not only is Jesus saying that God's kingdom now demands a compete reordering of priorities. He is now warning that a crisis is coming, a great showdown for which one must be prepared in the same way as servants who listen eagerly for their master's footfall and knock at the door. Jesus seems to have envisaged a coming moment at which the forces of light and darkness would engage in a terrible battle, resulting in his own death, and a devastating catastrophe for Israel in general and Jerusalem in particular...
These events will therefore pose a serious test for the disciples. If they start to relax, to assume that because they are Jesus' followers all will be well, then they will find things will come upon them before they are ready. Jesus knows that the time cannot be far off. In a sense, indeed, he is on his way to Jerusalem to precipitate it. But he also knows that the disciples haven't understood more than a little of what is to come, and he must therefore warn them to be ready.
I guess you are Jesus' disciple, right? So, How are you preparing yourself that you are not going to prepare for the wrong things and that you can be ready anytime when time comes? Are you ready?
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Do you know what you really need to prepare?
What I received from Jesus today is a warning after yesterday's reality check of our preparation. Why not have a check of what you did last year. How much time, money and effort you spent for your own but not for the Kingdom of God? Do you know what you really need to prepare? Are you ready if the time comes that you can stand firm and be faithful?
Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to know how to use our resources to prepare for the right things so that we can be ready any time for the Cross to come. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
