Bible Study

As says by N. T. Wright, this passage is beyond "Do not afraid":
John has already made it clear that this chapter is to be all about the Exodus, and so when we have this scene of Jesus walking on the water we should be prepared to understand it as part of the same story. The children of Israel began their journey to freedom by coming through the Red Sea, with the waters parting before them but closing again of their pursuers. It was, of course, Moses who led the way through the Red Sea, and the crowds have just declared that Jesus is 'the prophet who should come into the world' - the prophet, that is, like Moses.

So, what N.T. Wright leads us to think is that Jesus is like Moses that the Israelites were being fed with manna and could walk on the sea to where God wanted them to go. It is just that Jesus was walking not on the bottom of the sea by on the surface of the sea.

Do you understand how importance is Moses to the Jews? If you understand, then you know what Jesus would like to demonstrate to the Jews in these two miracles. How does Jesus say to you through this?

Have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to God as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Jesus Is More Powerful Than Moses! Of course!

If not for N.T. Wright's idea I would not link these two miracles with Moses. But, it does make a difference if I think in that angle! Jesus is more powerful than Moses! Wow! That's really is a big deal to the Jews! What are you afraid of if you have Jesus with you like that each day?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thanks for giving us confirmation that you are our Provider and you can lead us through any wave and storm to the place you want us to go. Remove our fear away that we can follow you totally and freely. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
