We have the word "come to me" appears six times from verse 35 to 46 in yesterday's passage. Today we find out a very astonishing invitation of an action after coming to Jesus. It is "eat me", eat Jesus!
It's not talking about Jesus wants to turn us to cannibal. In fact, just the opposite. In reality, human eats human happen all the day. Why? Big business eating small business, relative and friends eating relative and friends for money, power or sex. So many people are eating their own lives because of money, power and sex.
N.T. Wright says,
Those who do this will be people of the true Exodus. In the original Exodus, the ancestors of the present Israelites had eaten the bread they were given, but they still died. This bread, this bread-of-life which is Jesus himself, is given, and given to be broken in death, so that those who eat of it may not die, but have eternal life in the present and the future and be raised up on the last day...
But it remains true that 'God so loved the world' (3:16), and that the world he loved, having once contained the Word made Flesh, is now waiting, like a beautiful crystal glass waiting to be filled with rich wine(the Eucharist), for the day when God will flood it completely with his own presence. John, like some other early Christian writers, was prepared to see the bread and wine of the eucharist as foretastes of that great moment.
Do you choose to eat Jesus and follow Jesus' example to be eaten or to eat money, power and sex and willing to be a "worldly cannibal' to eat other people?
Have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to God as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Eat Me!!!
From 'come to me' to 'eat me', Jesus gives us a way to follow.
1. Eat Jesus rather than eat money, power and sex each day.
2. Follow Jesus example to give yourself, to take your cross daily, to sacrifice your time, money and everything for the Kingdom ministry but not to eat others like a cannibal.
Do you want to be a Christlike servant of God or a cannibal-like instrument of the world?
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to eat you everyday that we can be more like you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
