Following the thoughts of N. T. Wright the past two days we have a good 'catch" today. He says,
"The bread and the fish that Jesus had distributed to the crowds were there to lead the eye, the mind and the heart to the true gift of God to his people, then and there. They were there to open up their understanding to the fact that the new Passover, the new Exodus, was taking place right in front of them, and that Jesus was leading it...
Here his charge against the crowds is that the 'sign' of the feeding is meant to lead you to the true food: the food the son of man will give(v. 27), the food which is Jesus himself.(v. 35)...
Jesus doesn't answer their request for a further sign, but instead points out that the real answer to their question is standing in front of them. Moses was only God's agent."

Have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to God as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Is Jesus standing in front of you?
Yes, that's what I heard from Jesus today. Of course we can't see with our physical eyes that Jesus is standing in front of us. But, this is a "relational" question. This is really what Jesus meant when he said that to his disciples in this passage. They tried to find all their lives so many things but what they really needed for their lives was standing in front of them and they still wanted to look for other answer or source. What a waste!
I do hope and pray that you see with your spiritual eyes that Jesus is standing in front of you and that you can feel with your soul that Jesus is just beside you especially when you are having your daily devotion. If not, I don't think you are having a real daily devotion! Your are just reading the Bible, learning something but not having a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus. Hope you know the difference!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Please tell us the difference whether we are having a true daily intimate personal relationship with you or just reading the Bible for a learning purpose. Be close to us each day Lord Jesus. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
