Timing, and God's timing is what we need to learn in this passage. Jesus knew that Lazarus was very sick and then he was going to die. Why the waiting?
N.T. Wright says:
The time of waiting, therefore, was vital. As so often, Jesus needed to be in prayer, exploring the father's will in that intimacy and union of which he often spoke. Only then would he act - not in the way Mary and Martha had wanted him to do, but in a manner beyond their wildest dreams.
Are you waiting for something or someone? Watch out, your time of waiting is vital! Follow Jesus way of praying and waiting, then you'll know through you know how to wait in God's way, God's name will be glorified!
Have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: You time of waiting is vital!
Today Jesus gives me a very good message and confirmation on the issue of waiting. That kind of waiting and praying as shown in this passage is very unusual. It's not only about Lazarus, not only about how to raise a dead man to show how powerful how Jesus is. This chapter begins with the disciples warning Jesus not to go back to Judaea and it ends with the high priest declaring that one man must die for the people (v.50). It's about how Jesus could raise up a dead man, but most important it's about the long waiting of God's time for Jesus to start his journey towards the Cross to die. Good timing is always God's timing!
