Here in this passage Jesus offers those people a last chance to change so that they can escape the fate that would come on them. That's why He says, "You will die in your sin."
N.T. Wright says:
But he is offering an alternative! If they would only believe that he is the Messiah, sent by God to rescue Israel and the world, then they would be able to follow him and not plunge into ruin. But Jesus already knows that they won't... Things were urgent; the chief priests and Pharisees, and those whom they influenced, were either going to listen to him or they weren't. And Jesus increasingly realized that they weren't. Despite the fact that they were God's people, they were 'from below'; they simply didn't understand how the God of whom he spoke could be the same as the God they thought they knew.
Where are you from? Above or below?
Have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to God as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Above or below?
What I heard from Jesus today is very important to our living out of our lives from "above" and not "below":
1. Do nothing on our own(v. 28): We need to follow Jesus' example that we are able to listen to the Father through Jesus and that we are willing to obey so that we do nothing on our own.
2. Sent by God and is with God: We need to be willing to be sent by God to do His Kingdom work and not our own work and that we need to be with God each day. That is a kind of "Emmanuel" journey daily!
3. We always do what pleases God: Just as what Jesus says and does, we need to make sure whatever we do we will please God!
If you can follow these three steps then your life will be richly blessed and anointed!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to exercise the three steps so that we are from "above" and not "below". In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
