DAY 711 - Jesus Must Suffer in Order to Rescue (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Four years ago today, April 9, 2010, Michelle went to see her family doctor and was told that she got leukaemia. She was admitted to Vancouver General Hospital the next morning (http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2010/04/day-234-my-wife-michelle-has-leukemia.html ). Michelle is not feeling well lately!  Her family doctor is now having a series of check-up for her to see what is happening. On this day, I would like to invite you to join us in a 100 days of prayer (From April 9 to July 17) for Michelle, our family and my ministry. Please click this link to join us to pray:
New 100 Days Prayer Campaign (2014.04.09-2014.07.17)

What you need to do is very simple. Choose one hour slot for the whole week to pray for Michelle, our family and my ministry. You may use the whole hour in prayer or you can still do you work in your office but use as much time as you can to pray and the other time work prayerfully that hour to pray for us. I encourage you to participate. We need you to join us! Trust in the power of prayers!

Bible Study

Lots of people including many Christians do not under why we as human beings have to suffer that much. If there is a God, why he wants us to suffer that much?

Here in this passage we should have an opportunity to learn why.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Although Jesus was God's son, he 'learned the nature of obedience through what he suffered.'  One might have thought that being God's son would simply be a matter of sharing God's rule of the world, living in glory and bliss.  Not so…
Jesus must learn what it means to be his father's obedient son; and that will mean suffering, not because God is a sadist who simply wants to see his dear son having a rough time of it, but because the world which God made and loves is a dark and wicked place and the son must suffer its sorrow and pain in order to rescue it.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.48, 49.

Have you been going through a certain kind of sufferings? If so, it is OK because Jesus had gone through all kinds of sufferings you can think of. Are you better than Jesus? Do you know God has a purpose when He allows you to go through all those sufferings?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Jesus must suffer in order to rescue

The message I got from Jesus today is a soul awakening call to us, especially to those who are going to quit because of too much sufferings. Don't worry, since Jesus must suffer in order to rescue, those who are willing to follow Jesus will also go through sufferings in order that God can work through you to rescue other people.

So, may be you would say, "OK, not me. I am not going to follow Jesus because I do not want to go through suffering." Then, you are just a fool because where ever you live, you are in this dark and wicked world and you are in the midst of sufferings, or even worst, you are the source to cause other people to suffer.

Don't worry, when God allows you to go through the present suffering, there is a purpose. It is a way to learn obedience. Trust Him totally, He will use you to rescue other people.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to trust you totally in the midst of suffering so that we can be able to  learn the meaning of obedience. And, you can use us as a channel to rescue. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
