Bible Study

The author once again draws our focus to Jesus in a very special way in today's passage. He shows us the difference of the priesthood Jesus has with all the other priests have.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The present point is the contrast between Jesus himself and the other priests.  They went on sacrificing day after day and year after year; but part of the perfection, the completeness, of his priesthood is that he achieved in a single great sacrifice that to which all the previous sacrifices pointed but which they could never bring to perfection...
Some Christians face the danger of forgetting just how central and vital Jesus himself was and is to every aspect of Christian faith.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.80.

There must be quite a number of priests who helped you to draw near to God, your Saviour, Lord and King. But, do you know that Jesus is the only one who can help you to draw near to the King of Heaven? All of those who helped you or have been helping you to draw near to the King must be through Jesus, no one can. Do you know what my point is?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Through whom you draw near the King?

The message I got from Jesus today is beyond words can express. Why? Because Michelle and I experienced two events today, seemingly just coincidence, but actually a tailor-made message for today.

First, we saw the Queen of England! She walked just not more than 30 meters in front of us into Westminster Abbey.  There was an installation of Knights ceremony for a few admirals and we were just near by to see the Queen in close range! That is the first time of our life and I think this should be the first and last time of our life that we can see the Queen of England! It's so difficult to see a king or queen in our lifetime.

Second, we went into All Souls Church. The church John Stott was Curate 1945-1950, then Rector 1950-1975. As you may know, God used Uncle John to help me to draw near to Him in 1991:

The last time I visited Uncle John was with Ignatius in July 2009. We went to   London trying to see him again but the appointment on June 10, 2011 was cancelled because he was too ill and he died on July 27, 2011. When I went in All Souls this morning it brought back lots of memory. And I know that his funeral was being held there. Uncle John is the most important priest of my life helping me to draw near our Lord and King.

Today we saw the Queen of England. And, it is so difficult to have a chance to see her in close range. It would be a big honour for Englishmen to see their Queen, but the chance is so few.

It is so easy to meet with God each day through Jesus. But, instead, we use other people or other things instead of Jesus trying to draw near to God. Uncle John did not and could not bring me to draw near to our Heavenly Father. It is Jesus using Uncle John as one of many channels and bridges for me to experience God through Jesus Himself.

You need to figure it out today that it is only through Jesus that you can draw near to our King. And, it is so easy for you to see our King each day. Not like seeing the Queen of England as Michelle and I did today.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to understand that only through you we can draw near to our Heavenly Father. Help us to know that no one can do that except you so that we won't rely on anyone or anything to draw near to God. Only you!  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
