Bible Study

After a wonderful picture and vision of our being able to worship God on earth as the Holy City, the author tells us more about this City. This City as the centre of the Kingdom of God is never to be shaken.

What kind of Kingdom on earth cannot be shaken? Never. We have earthquake everywhere since creation to shake everything causing death and great loss.  We have wars and disasters that shake those earthly kingdoms and corporations and kings and CEOs are not always secure.

God's Kingdom is the only Kingdom that cannot be shaken and instead it is the only Kingdom that can shake every kind of kingdom you can think of. God is consuming fire and He can do anything thing to any earthly kingdom in any time. So, what should be our attitude towards this unshaken Kingdom?

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

The true God is not tame, nor does he spoil his children.  He is like a fire: the holiness of God, emphasized through the Temple ritual, is not undermined by the fact that, in the new covenant, his people are invited into his presence in a new way…
The appropriate response, therefore  is gratitude and worship…
Thanking God for what you have is the way to keep the things of this world in proper perspective.  That way, you can never turn them into idols…
If that is so with the present world, with all its ambiguities, how much more ought we to be grateful for the world that is to come, the world that we have been promised as our true inheritance!
When you bow down before the living God and thank him from the bottom of your heart for what he's done and for what he will do, it is as though you are a priest in the Temple, offering the purest, most unblemished sacrifice.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.165-167.

How secure we are if we can worship our Lord each day in His unshaken Kingdom offering our sacrifice to Him? How joyful and glorious it can be to worship and obey our Lord like that?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: The Kingdom that cannot be shaken

The message I got from Jesus today is such a great comfort to all of us who are actually in this fragile world. All those people and things on earth we think we can get hold of, they can be gone just like wind in an instance. We can be caught in this painful reality like an animal being caught in a trap waiting to be slaughtered. Just like when I walked with my wife Michelle into the hospital on April 10, 2010 when she got leukaemia. She said, "I feel like a little chicken waiting to be slaughtered!" How frightening and sad that our world can be shaken like that!

You don't want that to happen to you, right? But, you know sooner or later that will happen to you because human beings have to die, and we can be gone sometime we never know when. Crisis can come in any time like an earthquake without any warning!

Let's turn our eyes upon Jesus and let's worship our Lord in that heavenly Holy City knowing that His Kingdom is the only Kingdom that cannot be shaken. That's hope, real hope!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be sure that your Kingdom is the only Kingdom that cannot be shaken. Lead us to live out a life of worship and obey that we can enjoy each day and that we can extend your mighty unshaken Kingdom. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
