Bible Study

The author talks about the need to copy those mature leaders in yesterday's passage. Here in today's passage the author tells us that the most important person to follow and copy is actually Jesus. Jesus is like an anchor holding us tight in any situation, even in severe storm.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
So when Hebrews tells us that the Christian hope acts like an anchor it is, as far as we know, the only time in early Christian writing when this idea is used…

Jesus has gone in, not into the earthly Temple in Jerusalem, but into the true sanctuary, the world of heaven itself, right into the innermost courts and into the very presence of the loving father.  And he has gone there on our behalf.  We are attached to him as though by a great metal cable.  He is there, in the very presence of God, like an anchor.  As long as we don't let go of the cable, we are anchored to the presence of God; all the winds, tides and storms that may come can't shift us…

We are not promised that there won't be any storms; indeed, the provision of a secure anchor implies that there will be.  What we are promised is that we will be kept safe.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.65, 66.

We need to copy those faithful leaders good models in order to become a mature disciple of Christ. That is for sure. But, what about the image that Jesus is the anchor to you? How do you experience Jesus as your anchor during stormy season of your life?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Don't cut the cable! Jesus is the anchor!

The message I got from Jesus today is a very important warning. And, today I have another coincidence to have two good examples for today's message.

Today we have the honour to have dinner with the Very Rev. H. Miller, Rector General of the Anglican Mission, and his wife Shirley. Each one of them shared with a good example concerning with today's message.

1. H shared about he met a pastor recently in London who closed down his church some six years ago because of some kind of discouragements. Those sad discouragements led him to cut the tide to the church he found and he is still in the condition of despair not able to do anything. When storms come, lots of time it would hit so hard that we just want to cut the cable attached to everything. I do hope and pray that this pastor has not cut the cable attached to Jesus as his anchor! Let's pray for him now!

2. Shirley shared about the two days of HTB's Leadership Conference. In that conference, she was sitting beside a woman pastor and she had been crying all two days because the presence of our Lord was so intense. The second day she bought quite a number of tissue paper packs with the label of the England flag. You can see in the picture below that Shirley was holding one of those packs the lady gave to her to wipe off their tears.

Be encouraged and be willing to connect with everything our Lord Jesus Christ prepares for you to connect. The most important cable should be connect to Jesus Himself as your only anchor that can save you from a severe storm.

Don't cut the cable! Jesus is the anchor!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us not to cut the cable connected to you in all circumstances so that we are secure and safe. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
