Bible Study

In yesterday's passage, the author tells us to stay in our church and to build up our church as a community with everything we have got. Here in this passage, the author warns those who turn their back to their faith.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Someone who has heard the gospel of Jesus the Messiah, and has come into fellowship with the people who hold it fast and live by it, and who then turns away and declares that it's all rubbish and he or she doesn't want anything to do with it - such a person, says Hebrews, is trampling God's son underfoot, treating the covenant blood as though it were meaningless, and despising the spirit of God through whom comes saving grace.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.120.

Have you encounter those people who throw away their faith like that? What would you feel about that? Would you feel angry, discouraged or hopeless?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Don't be an avenger, God will repay

The message I got from Jesus today is a warning to those who throw away their faith or their church. And, a comfort and assurance to those who have been hurt by those deserters.

It is actually very discouraging when you have some people doing things like that. There are times we have tried all our best to help people to receive Jesus, baptized and then they disappeared. I have quite a number of those experiences.

But, the most hurtful experiences are those we have put lots of effort to raise them as disciples of Christ but suddenly they turn their back against you, badmouthing you, spreading rumours that is not true to accuse you. I have quite a number of those most painful experiences.

You really would like to avenge, to have the same attitude towards them, to do the same thing against them. But, the author tells us very clearly today that we do not need to do anything. Why? Because God will repay those people in His own way. We should never take the role of an avenger. So, relax, when you encounter with this kind of painful experience. Don't worry and don't be discouraged, God will take care of those people, in His time and in His ways!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us not to take the role of an avenger knowing that you will repay in your own way. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
