Bible Study

The author leads us to understand the long-awaited new covenant of God has arrived through yesterday's quote from Jeremiah 31.31-34. Today we have a glimpse of what the new order is. Bishop N.T. Wright translates the last word of verse 10 as "proper order" rather than "new order" as in NIV , ESV "time of reformation",  NRSV "set things right". Quite a various meaningful and interesting translations in various versions.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The main point to which Hebrews now comes - in one sense, this is the very heart of the letter - is that God has all along had a master plan for how the world would be put to rights.  He has envisaged from the beginning the way in which the wickedness and frailty of his human creatures would be dealt with, so that the entire world could be 'put into proper order' (verse 10)...

The clue comes in verse 9,  the double tent - with its outer part where the priests come and go, and its inner part where only the high priest goes - is a picture, a 'parable' or allegory, of the two 'ages', the two periods of time, within the long purposes of God…

In Jesus the great high priest, God has put things into proper order at last.  He has thus established the new covenant, in which sins have been fully and finally dealt with.

Have you been put through the salvation of Jesus into God's proper order, being set things right by Jesus that you are a new creation in God's new order?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Into God's proper order

The message I got from Jesus today is a question, a reminder and a challenge, whether we are in God's proper order, or we are just like those Israelites still living in the old order and nothing has been changed much?

A few weeks ago I met a brother who I have not seen him at church for quite some times. He said, "I can't do it! To be a Christian needs to pay a lot!" What he means is that he doesn't want to become a new creation. Every time he confesses his sins, for a little while, he goes back to his "old self" and usual lifestyle. He doesn't want to repeatedly living the same mistakes again and again and doesn't want the Holy Spirit to reveal his darkness. He chooses to stay in darkness. Choose not to be put into God's proper order.

How about you? Have you been put into God's proper order, back into His master plan and become a new creation following Jesus each day to live out His plan?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to worship and obey you so that we are in your proper order. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
