Bible Study

      This passage tells us how Cornelius and his household got saved during Peter was still telling the story about Jesus. 

     Cornelius and his household don't even have a chance to say, 'We believe.'  The spirit comes upon them and they speak with tongues, just as the apostles did on the day of Pentecost. There are many signs of new life recorded in Acts, of which 'tongues' is only one, and it is by no means always present; but sometimes, when it happens, it happens for a purpose.  Here the purpose is clear: Peter and those with him need to know that these uncircumcised people have been regarded by the Holy Spirit as fit vessels to be filled with his presence and voice.  And if that is so, there can be no barriers to baptism.  All this is what is meant by the opening line of Peter's speech, 'God has no favourites.'...It means that there are no ethnic, geographical, cultural or moral barriers any longer in the way of anyone and everyone being offered forgiveness and new life.

     That was a big Aha moment for Peter as well as to the Early Church. Before that, Jews thought that no Gentile could be saved. After that, those Christians Jews started to understand God's salvation is to all people, not just to the Jews. How did this Aha moment means to you? Have you got any Aha moment today? Do you have someone in your mind that they can never be saved? Do you have someone in your mind that you can never forgive? 
                              
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

     What I heard from Jesus today is: The big Aha moment

    What I got from Jesus is an invitation to enter into Peter's Aha moment and to see if there is anything related to you. Have you got a new understanding of God's love and forgiveness giving you a kind of your Aha moment?

    Is it Peter's message which led them to believe or is it their readiness which led them to believe? Or, both? 

    Are you able and willing to be led by the Holy Spirit to similar people who are ready to receive the Gospel? How can you prepare yourself for that kind of readiness so that you can enter into their readiness? 

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us be able and willing to be led by the Holy Spirit to those who are ready to receive the Gospel. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
