Bible Study

Today's passage is about how the apostles of the Early Church sent a team, Judas and Silas, to go to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas to clear the rumours that Paul and Barnabas were the trouble-makers.

It is sad that people within the family of the church should be so suspicious of one another as to make this necessary, but if it was so more than once in the first 20 or 30 years of the Christian movement perhaps we should not be surprised if it has continued that way since...
The document is very clear that Paul and Barnabas, so far from being seen in Jerusalem as trouble-makers, are very much persona grata(an acceptable person). They are 'beloved', and they have risked their lives for the name of Jesus...
And then comes the disclaimer: the people who went to Antioch from Jerusalem may have come 'from us' in the sense that they were part of the Jerusalem church, but we did not send them or commission them to say what they said to you.

Have you seen this kind of thing happened? Do you know who are the real trouble-makers, the bad boys? Are you one of those bad boys? How can you help more bad boys to come into senses like the prodigal son to become beloved servants of God?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Who are the real trouble-makers?

What I got today from Jesus is to remind us that we need to be very careful in order that we do not become one of the trouble-makers.

Jesus gives me a passage for you to think of and have a self-examination:

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.
“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit.      Luke 6:41-43

I have seen too much Christians spreading rumours that some of their brothers and sisters are bad boys but in fact they are the real trouble-makers and bad boys or bad girls.

Don't follow those wicked examples! Be a peace-maker and a faithful beloved servant of God!

If you have not listen to my podcast yesterday please do so now. It will surely help you to be a real peace-maker and a faithful beloved servant of God.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be a true peace-maker and your faithful beloved servant.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
