Bible Study

This passage tells us how difficult is can be as a servant of God. Peter got a major paradigm change but not those Christian leaders in Jerusalem. We can see clearly here in this passage how Peter told them what happened that he was very certain that the Gospel was not only for the Jews but for all people.
When they heard what Peter witnessed, they were silent and then they acknowledged that was the work of God.

The ways in which God's people sometimes need to explain themselves to one another - an important task in all generations, since God is always doing new things, but there is equally a danger in mere human innovation. Part of the difficulty, of course, is identifying the work of the Holy Spirit.

N.T. Wright. Acts for Everyone, Part 1. Louisville,KY:Westminster John Knox Press, 2008, p.174.

If you were a leader in Jerusalem at that time, how would you respond in this situation? Do you support Peter or oppose him just as the others did? Why would you support him? Why would you oppose him?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Support rather than objection please!

What I got from Jesus is a request from Jesus to support your pastors and leaders. How sad it was when Peter knew that everyone was opposing him asking to explain what he did.

It is always a trust issue! Why can you trust your pastors and leaders more rather than opposing them, spreading rumours to hurt them and creating dissension? Why? Who wins?

A church is like a castle. A castle is being built so that soldiers and people inside the castle can have more protection. To break a castle by outside force is not easy. But, it is so easy to destroy a castle by internal struggles and dissension.

Why not add one more support than one more opposition to your home church? It's win-win, right? If you join in with the party who always oppose, it's lose-lose, why you do that? Only Satan wins! Why you help Satan to win and destroy a church?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to trust our pastors and leaders so that we use all we have and all we can to build our home church.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
