Bible Study

     In the midst of many teachers and false teachers in Corinth, Paul reminds the Corinthians his position as a true father to them. Paul claims the authority as their spiritual father in love and in power from Jesus. 
Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
     In Paul's world, the 'baby-sitter' was usually a resident slave in a household, whose job it was to look after the children while the parents were out, and to try - often unsuccessfully - to stop them getting into mischief.  That, Paul is implying, is what all the other teachers in Corinth are like.  But the father is coming back soon, and then everything will be sorted out.  Do they want him to come back home brandishing a big stick, or to come as a father should, with open arms and a big smile?

      Has Jesus given you a spiritual father or spiritual fathers to help you to become a better disciple of Christ? How have you been imitating their good examples?

    What I heard from Jesus today is: I urge you to imitate me

    What I got from Jesus today is a reminder to us that we need to prepare ourselves so that we can say the same word Paul said two thousand years ago, "I urge you to imitate me."

     Do you have the character and courage to say this? It seems a co-incidence that in my Devotion on Fire 2 blog today talks about how God used John Stott to change my life as one of my spiritual fathers and how I imitate his life the past 22 years since I met him. Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to prepare ourselves so that we can be models for other people to imitate and that they can be more like you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
