Bible Study

Here in this chapter, Paul starts a new problem in Corinth. The problem of one Christian going to public court against another one. Paul tells people that the Roman magistrates are unjust because they have not been justified by God(verse 1).
Paul says that if they have problem that they have to go to law, they should find some competent Christians to try cases and not going to court. The best way should be not go to law against one another at all.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The church should deal with it as a matter of internal discipline...
Our life as a community, as Paul says in Philippians 2:14-16, should be like a light shining into a dark world. From time to time this happens, often in unexpected places, and the effect is explosive. We should not allow our natural reactions to a passage like this to prevent us from asking: where in today's church - in my church - are we behaving in such a way that we are shaming the gospel in the eyes of the world?

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.65, 66.

Do you know how shameful it can be to have such court cases happen? Why we as Christians are not loving each others but instead killing each others? Why?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Why are we killing each others?

What I got from Jesus today is a warning that we cannot kill each others. The situation here is Christians going to court against one another. I have seen quite a number of such cases happened and it really "shaming the gospel in the eyes of the world".

Why we can't love each others, forgive each other's wrong doing and so giving a good witness to the gospel. We talk about loving each others so much but is it so difficult to really love each others? What is the use if we kill each others? Who wins? Only Satan, no body!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to love one another and not kill one another. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
