Bible Study

Paul draws our attention to the problem of sexual immorality happened in the community of the Corinth.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
This whole passage is about learning to use the human body in the right way, for the right purpose. Paul says several remarkable things about the body in this passage, making it clear that the question of sexual immorality is one of the most serious issues the Corinthians faced...

The point here is that as a Christian you belong to Jesus; you are part of his 'body', as Paul will develop at more length in chapter 12.  This is a union of 'spirit' which can be damaged or threatened, it seems, by inappropriate unions of 'flesh'. You cannot belong simultaneously to the Messiah and to a prostitute, and, as we saw in the previous section, there is no such thing as a casual sexual encounter...

The result (verse 18) is that when faced with sexual temptation there is no virtue, no wisdom, in staying around to argue with it or trying to battle against it.  You should cut and run.  Paul may be thinking of Joseph in Genesis 39:6-12, running out of the house rather than being seduced by his master's wife.

Is that your problem? Do you know when to run and how to run?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: I will not dominated by anything

What I got from Jesus today is a secret to win over those sexual immoral temptations. One way and one key word: Jesus is Lord.

If what Paul says, "I will not dominated by anything.", is a true guiding principle of our lives, then everything will be well. Because the only one who can dominate our lives is Jesus and if Jesus really can dominate our lives we cannot be dominated by other people or things, right?

Are you being dominated by other people or things? Are you the one dominating your own life, are you the "real" lord of your life? How can you switch back, repent so that Jesus can lord you life?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to have you lording our lives.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
